Sony is launching the HT-AX7, a new portable theater system designed to bring spatial and room-filling sound throughout the home with 360 Spatial Sound Mapping.
According to the San Diego, Calif.-based firm, simply placing the speakers around the room will fill any space with audio.
The company says the HT-AX7’s Spatial Sound Mapping technology creates multiple phantom speakers at the front, rear and overhead, “enveloping a spatial sound in a bubble-like sphere.” This is done by just placing three speakers around the room without the need for special installation.
In addition, the HT-AX7 features Sony’s upmixer algorithm, which the company says can transform stereo sound into three-dimensional surround sound by analyzing sound in real-time and separating individual sound objects to create an immersive listening experience. Users can activate the sound-field effect to get a surround sound-like effect with 2-channel content.
When the sound field is off, the three speakers in the corners of the room and the HT-AX7 will create high-quality, room-filling sound, Sony says in a statement.
Sony’s HT-AX7 portable theater system does not require special installation, the company says, adding that set up is as simple as placing three speakers around a room via “complete wireless connectivity” and automatic pairing between rear speakers and the main unit.
In addition, the HT-AX7 doesn’t need a wired connection to a TV, as the system’s design allows content to be played from Bluetooth-enabled devices.
The company’s Hone Entertainment Connect app also helps users set up the HT-AX7 with a guided process that enables control over volume, sound field and more.
The system also features up to 30 hours of battery life and a quick-charging feature that gives p to 2.5 hours of play with a 10-minute charge.
Sony also highlights its manufacturing process, which the company says includes fabric material made from 100% recycled PET bottles and recycled plastics in the packaging, as well as a reduced use of plastics in the packaging.
The HT-AXT is priced at $499.99 and is available to preorder on Sony’s website.
