The British audio manufacturer Monitor Audio has introduced its new PL-IW 3G Platinum Series Loudspeaker.
Monitor Audio states that its latest product was developed to serve as a flagship architectural loudspeaker solution for the reproduction of stereo and multichannel content. According to the company, integrators can employ the PL-IW 3G Platinum Series Loudspeaker as a LCR product or as a surround speaker in multichannel home theaters.
Internally, the in-wall loudspeaker features the company’s third-generation Micro Pleated Diaphragm (MPD III) high-frequency transducer, along with drivers that use its RDT III cone technologies. Monitor Audio explains the drivers use a sandwiched construction process that places the RDT III material between a thin and rigid layer of its C-CAM material and twin layers of carbon fiber. Monitor Audio points out the speaker’s specific driver array includes dual 6.5-inch bass drivers, as well as a single 4-inch driver and the MPD III transducer.
The PL-IW 3G Platinum Series Loudspeaker’s cabinet utilizes reinforced, internally braced 25mm MDF materials and a steel-box construction technique. Monitor Audio emphasizes to help integrators tailor the performance of the speakers to individual listening spaces, the speaker also incorporates an adjustable mid/high-frequency driver array that is similar to its THX Ultra Certified Cinergy Theatre Series of products. This design element the company adds allows integrators to correctly orient the midrange and tweeter module during the installation of the speaker in either a vertical or horizontal alignment without compromising performance.
