The large electronics manufacturer Leviton has introduced its new SmartlockPro Self-Test GFCI Combination USB In-Wall Chargers that provides homeowners with a pair of Type A USB ports to charge their devices.
According to Leviton, its latest products combine its GFCI ground-fault protection technologies with two USB ports to allow users to charge twice as many devices as other in-wall charging solutions.
Available in 15-amp and 20-amp versions, the new SmartlockPro Self-Test GFCI Combination USB In-Wall Chargers meet the latest UL standard for auto monitoring (self test) by periodically running automatic tests internally to confirm that protected power is available to homeowners. If a problem is detected power will be denied with or without the ability to reset, which depends on continued self testing, or if visual and/or audio indicators are given.
Leviton points out that for additional safety, the outlets include tamper-resistant shutters that meet NEC Article 406.12 requirements by blocking access to the contacts unless someone plugs in a two- or three-prong device.
The new SmartlockPro Self-Test GFCI Combination USB In-Wall Chargers’ 4.8A USB ports provide 24 watts of total power, which the company says is twice the amount of other products. The USB ports also provide protection from devices receiving too much power, and the ports are compatible with USB 3.1, 3.0, 2.0 and 1.1 enabled products.
Additionally, the SmartlockPro products are compatible with Decora and Decora Plus screwless wall plates.
