Episode #91

Summary

Coincidentally this turned into a timely week to post a podcast about industrial-grade power protection, as storms are wreaking havoc across the country with ice in particular causing big damage. Launched by custom integration veteran Joe Piccirilli, whose four decades include growing Sound Advice and AVAD, RoseWater Energy Group delivers premium power protection and more for residential and commercial customers.

In this week’s episode of the CE Pro Podcast, Piccirilli joins me for a discussion of why he wanted to develop a product for RoseWater Energy made from commercial-grade materials to go into residential homes; how the company has grown and recently added key personnel (including David Laikind as VP of sales) plus expanded its U.S. distribution network and reps; and how integrators can get on board with the increasingly vital power and energy sector.

We also pegged the energy management and battery storage category as one of CE Pro’s Top 5 Tech opportunities for integrators in 2022. While that focused more on some new names getting into the category, RoseWater Energy has been a pace-setter with its presence at CEDIA Expo in recent years and partnering with industry buying groups as it added Azione Unlimited last year.

The company has made inroads in Florida, where it is based amid one of the nation’s hot spots for lighting strikes and hurricanes, and California, where energy issues and power grid problems have long impacted residents.

Piccirilli discusses features, installation and use cases of RoseWater Energy’s award-winning SB20 Energy Hub & Storage System. The premium high-performance product is in the wheelhouse for luxury clientele with extensive systems that need mission-critical protection.

“The design parameter of it in the beginning was, I was going to build the best product, so the first piece of it was I need to find a manufacturing partner who’s used to building military-spec products,” Piccirilli notes of the quality. That same approach went into the componentry and feature sets.

Integrators Can Provide Power Quality Advantage Using RoseWater’s SB20

The resulting SB20 combines three industrial-grade capabilities in an impressive all-in-one solution, integrating surge protection, power conditioning and uninterruptible power supply. The result lets integrators deliver peace of mind that their customers’ systems will never go down.

Integrators such as Jeff Galea at Boca Tech & Automation in Florida are examples, Piccirilli cites, of those experiencing success demo’ing and selling the SB20. He shares anecdotes about a dealer visit in California that turned into a builder job in which power issue calls went from one a month to zero.

“There’s no client dissatisfaction, the client is ecstatic,” he says of dealers (and builders, in such instances) who have resolved customers’ power problems.

“Of course, people don’t understand the difference between battery backup and power quality, and it is the power quality aspect that is the huge opportunity for our channel,” Piccirilli adds. “Because nobody gets it. But nobody is as affected by power anomalies as our channel – and who do [clients] call when anything like that happens? They don’t call the cable company, they don’t call the utility, they call our guys.”
