Smart Things drew a pretty big crowd at ISE 2015. No, not SmartThings, the home automation company now owned by Samsung. Rather, smart:)things, the maker of iPad wall mounts.
You might think there could be nothing new in the category of iPad mounts, but Smart Things actually has a couple of patents (issued and pending) for the design and utility of its sDocks.
The company claims to have the only products, for example, that hold and charge a tablet without using a “sleeve.” Instead, two brackets hold the screen into place, and those brackets can adjust to the size of the screen – no need to buy an entirely new mount with each new tablet iteration.
“We’re the only one that fits both the iPad 2 and iPad 3,” says Smart Things CEO Thomas Detemple. (UPDATE in commments: Virtually all iPad versions fit in the same mount.)
Also unique to the Smart Things paradigm: when the tablet is removed, the dock doesn’t leave behind an ugly black blemish. Instead, an image of the owner’s happy family or beautiful sunset slides into place, looking like a regular picture in a regular frame that was always meant to be there.
Smart Things has products that pivot and the latest sDock Fix that doesn’t. Options are available for powering over Ethernet or USB, and old connectors can always be swapped out for the new.
