RBH Revamps Signature Reference Series with New AMT Tweeters

The decades-old audio company RBH Sound has redesigned its Signature Reference line of products to include Air Motion Transducer (ART) tweeter.

For years the Utah-based loudspeaker manufacturer RBH Sound has quietly produced some of consumer audio's best products, and delivered some of CEDIA's best product demos.

CEDIA 2016 underscored RBH's commitment to engineering reasonably priced loudspeakers and delivering system demos that highlight the capabilities of its well-engineered product line.

Making a big splash in the speaker category, the Rocky Mountain manufacturer introduced its newly redesigned Signature Reference line of products, which are highlighted by the use of a new Air Motion Tweeter (AMT).

The company ran a great system demo using other speakers from the line, including the SV-831 monitor, SV-6500 floorstanding speakers, SV-44R surround speakers and SV-1212NR subwoofers, and demo content from Eric Clapton's “Crossroads” concert featuring Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi.

RBH says it worked with Aurum Cantus engineers to develop the tweeter. The use of the AMT tweeter is a departure for the company, which has traditionally employed dome tweeters.

“We have always been pleased with the performance of our fabric dome tweeters, and have preferred them over other tweeter types, including ribbon designs,” states Shane Rich, lead engineer, RBH Sound. “However, when we finalized the development of this new AMT tweeter with the engineers at Aurum Cantus, we discovered we had just raised the bar and there was no going back. Since we introduced another AMT tweeter model into our larger SV-831 and SV-821C models last year, we have been working closely with them to co-develop this new design and integrate it into the rest of our Signature Reference models to meet the demands and request from our dealerships and end users.”

Rich says the AMT tweeters produce a frequency response beyond 40kHz, and he says the tweeter complements its 6.5-inch midrange drivers nicely.

The speakers also include Reference upgrades such as fixed phase plug aluminum cone midrange woofers and newly redesigned crossover networks.

The Signature Reference line will be available in approximately six weeks, at the end of October 2016.
