Denon may be most famous for its A/V receivers or even possibly its turntables, but throughout its history the company has always offered a choice of headphones.
Adding to its history of designing and launching high-performing headphone products, the company has announced its new AH-D7200 over-the-ear headphones.
Denon says its latest flagship headphones utilize the company's 50 years of design experience. The engineering team had two goals for the development of the AH-D7200s: sound quality and comfort.
Nearly every element of the headphones are entirely new. Some of the just-created components for the headphones include its 50mm FreeEdge driver, which is made from a nano-fiber material, which is said to provide rigidity and low-mass capabilities, as well as a motor structure that features copper coated aluminum wire (CCAW) to keep the voice coil as light as possible.
The driver also employs neodymium magnets to help the linearity and speed of the driver's response to help ensure the driver system is delivering energy towards the listener's ears.
The drive units are mounted on resin baffles that reduce vibrations, and these mechanisms are built into walnut housings, which Denon says is a self-dampening natural material.
Oxygen-free 7N 99.9 percent pure copper cabling made to Denon's specification connects the drive units to amplifiers that power the drivers, and Denon adds the same 7N cabling is used internally throughout the AH-D7200s.
Addressing the comfort goals of the headphones, Denon explains the ear cups are suspended on ergonomically curved die-cast aluminum hangers, and the headband is covered in real sheepskin leather. It also uses memory foam on the earpieces to provide comfort and a good fit. Denon trims the ear pieces with artificial leather for added comfort and aesthetic value.
Denon's AH-D7200 over-the-ear headphones will be available in January 2017 at a price of $999.
