Before power management became a recognized discipline within the integration industry, Piccirilli was deeply immersed in audio-video (AV) technologies. In the 1980s, he founded Sound Advice, a retail chain that grew to over 20 stores. The company’s success was largely driven by his comprehensive sales training programs.
After retiring from Sound Advice, Piccirilli applied his sales strategies during tenures with KEF, Texas Instruments, Best Buy, and other major global brands. Recognizing a gap in distribution for AV integrators, he went on to establish AVAD, the first national distribution company to combine local representation with a robust portfolio of leading brands.
Under his leadership, AVAD became the exclusive supplier of Fujitsu displays, Phillips Pronto remotes, and top-tier solutions like Lutron HomeWorks and Crestron. In 2005, he brokered a deal for AVAD’s acquisition by Ingram Micro, paving the way for his next venture into large-scale power management.
Throughout his 40-year career, Piccirilli has earned numerous accolades, including recognition as one of CE Pro’s Top 20 Most Influential People and CEDIA’s Top 10 Instructors of the Decade. His contributions to the custom installation and power management industries include consulting for leading brands such as Sony, Denon, and Dolby, further solidifying his reputation.
