Legrand is unveiling new Matter-enabled Wi-Fi smart lighting devices from the company’s Radiant Collection, bringing the Matter standard to light switches, dimmers and outlets.

According to the West Hartford, Conn.-based company, which announced the new smart lighting options at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, says the new devices can be controlled with several approved Matter controllers, including the latest from Amazon, Google, Apple and Samsung.

The new Matter-enabled devices eliminate the need for another smartphone app or plugin, as the devices are set up and controlled through those smart home platforms and assistants, making it easier to use services like Amazon Alexa to control lights and appliances with voice, scheduled routines, or through more advanced automations with new Matter-enabled devices.

The new Wi-Fi, Matter-enabled products include the Smart 15A Plug-In, the radiant Smart Switch, the radiant Smart 15A Receptable, the radiant Smart LED Dimmer, and the Smart Outdoor Dual Output Plug. They are due to become available starting next month and through the remainder of the first quarter.

According to Legrand, Matter’s multi-admin functionality allows eliminates being locked into a single smart home ecosystem, allowing smart devices to connect with multiple platforms simultaneously.

Manny Linhares, senior director of product management at Legrand, says the company leveraged Amazon’s Alexa Connect Kit for Matter to assist in the creation of the new smart products while maintaining the radiant collection’s design.

Legrand says the new devices will also support Amazon’s Frustration-Free Setup with Alexa to simplify the device setup experience. When a device that uses that setup is purchased through Amazon’s e-commerce platform and linked to the consumer’s Alexa account during checkout, it will automatically attempt to connect to their network when powered on.

“This collaboration with Amazon allowed our teams to more rapidly develop the product and implement the new Matter standard and protocol, all while maintaining Legrand’s high-quality safety and security standards,” Linhares says in a statement.

”We’re thrilled to work with Legrand to bring their products to life for Alexa customers,” says Ben McInnis, director of smart home at Amazon. “The Alexa Connect Kit for Matter is a fully-managed service that makes it easy to build great Matter-enabled products and leverage Amazon’s resources to simplify development, so that Legrand can focus on building high-quality products.”
