CPSC Recalls LG 86-inch TVs Over Safety Concerns

Published: January 17, 2023

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of LG 86-inch flat-panel televisions.

According to the government agency, the recall affects about 52,000 products in the U.S., in addition to 1,800 products in Canada, and 2,900 television sold in Mexico.

The CPSC states the reason for the recall is the TVs can become unstable when assembled with the products’ included mounting legs. The lack of stability the government continues, can result in injury or even possibly death to children if the TVs fall over on top of kids.

For custom integrators to check whether their clientele are affected by this recall, the CPSC points out the recall involves four LG Electronics 86-inch smart TV models with model numbers: 86UQ8000AUB, 86UQ7070ZUD, 86UQ7590PUD, and 86NANO75UQA. The TVs (not including the stands) are 86-inches diagonally, 43.5-inches high, 76-inches wide, and 2.4-inches deep. The TVs weigh approximately 100 pounds, and the serial number of the recalled product begins with 202RM, 203RM, 204RM, 205RM, 206RM, 207RM, or 208RM. The TVs’ serial numbers are located at the bottom right of the back of the TV, along with the model number.

In addition, dealers and consumers can also check the serial number by pressing the mute button, three times rapidly on the original LG remote control that shipped with the TVs.

The CPSC also notes that to avoid any problems, dealers and/or homeowners should immediately detach the legs and move the TVs away from children. Moreover, the CPSC also emphasizes that dealers and/or consumers should contact LG Electronics for instructions on how to inspect the unit and to obtain replacement screws and stand parts, including help from a technician for a free repair.

The TVs in question were sold through several retailers from March to September 2022.
