Building upon its legacy of bipolar speaker designs, Definitive Technology has introduced its new Dymension Series of loudspeakers.
The company points out that its latest line of products offers integrators a choice of four tower loudspeakers, as well as a trio of center-channel speaker products; a height speaker module for immersive audio applications, and a surround speaker that can be used for immersive audio and traditional multichannel speaker systems.
Definitive Technology states the Dymension Series of loudspeakers have been engineered to work together to seamlessly create an immersive soundstage. The company also notes the speakers feature a modern take on its classic industrial design that includes wrapping the speakers in transparent acoustical cloth to help the speakers disappear within home spaces when a room’s lights are turned off.
Definitive Technology Dymension Series Highlights
Outlining some of the features of the product line’s flagship DM80 loudspeaker, Definitive Technology, says the floorstanding speaker incorporates these technical elements:
- Fully Balanced, Adjustable Bipolar Array: Definitive Technology explains that bipolar driver arrays direct more sound in more directions than traditional speakers for an increased depth-of-field and enveloping listening experience. Bipolar effect can be adjusted to optimize for room placement.
- Built-In 12-inch Powered Subwoofer: The DM80 employs an integrated 12-inch subwoofer, powered by a new 400-watt GaN FET amplifier.
- BDSS System and Linear Response Waveguide: The DM80’s four 5.25-inch mid/bass woofers feature the company’s Balanced Double Surround System technology (BDSS). The company says that BDSS improves midrange driver excursion and provides a wide, uniform soundstage with seamless bass/mid integration. The speaker also includes Definitive Technology’s Linear Response Waveguide that is designed to smoothly extend off-axis dispersion.
- Patented Intelligent Bass Control: Definitive Technology says the Dymension Series DM80 features digital processing that seamlessly blends subwoofer output with mids and highs to provide deep-bass performance without sacrificing midrange clarity.
- DM90 Integrated Height Module Option: Available separately, Definitive Technology says the floorstanding speaker is compatible with its DM90 Atmos-certified and DTS:X-compatible height module connects to the top of the DM80 to extend sound above seating positions.
Another speaker highlight within the Dymension Series is the DM30 center-channel speaker, which offers these benefits to homeowners:
- Advanced Five-Driver Array: Four 5.25-inch BDSS midrange woofers and a 1-inch aluminum oxide tweeter. These drivers are augmented by the DM30’s integrated 8-inch powered subwoofer.
- Built-In 8-inch Powered Subwoofer: The Dymension Series DM30 utilizes an integrated 8-inch powered subwoofer delivers clean, detailed bass that has been engineered to blend with mids and highs of the new center-channel speaker to help the DM30 reproduce full-range sound.
- 3XR Architecture with Dual Bass Radiators: Definitive Technology emphasizes the DM30 features its 3XR Architecture that was introduced in the company’s flagship Descend Series. Definitive Technology says this design combines a subwoofer and two passive radiators.
- BDSS System and Linear Response Waveguide: The DM30’s midrange woofers feature Definitive’s BDSS technology that is said to improve driver excursion to enable improved midrange detail. Additionally, the Dymension Series DM30 also features the company’s Linear Response Waveguide to extend off-axis dispersion.
