Earlier this week, we highlighted a sweet on-screen display (OSD), allowing Savant home-automation systems to be controlled via Apple TV with a standard Apple TV remote. The demo was slick — I've never seen such a thing in our industry.
I goofed in calling it Savant's implementation of two-way IP control of Apple TV — as in, the type of control Apple finally enabled just last year with an API for third-party integration.
So, here we have Savant's demonstration of that integration, which the smart-home company began showing last year. In the two videos below, Savant demonstrates how its own remote can turn into a virtual Siri controller with the press of a mic button.
As we see, a simple voice command for “HBO” or “Lock the door” yields prompt responses from Apple TV.
“Watch xyz.”
